Teach Your Monster to Read: First Steps is a phonics-based reading game for children aged 3-6.

Create your own monster and take it on an adventure through a magical world. Travel to colourful places, meet the mysterious Island Kings and collect rewards as your monster learns the first steps of reading.

The game helps children to develop speed and accuracy of letter recognition, plus developing their ability to blend and segment words.

It was created and developed by The Usborne Foundation, a charitable fund set up by Peter Usborne of Usborne Publishing. The game has been designed in collaboration with academics from Roehampton University and features Simon Farnaby from BBC’s Horrible Histories.

Its a great way to practise the first steps of reading.

Reviews of the online game:
------------------------------------

"This game is the absolute best quality phonics game I have come across for educational and fun value."

Marie Lewis, Rochdale

“Thank you so much for your wonderful game. Id tried every resource available to me, but my son had zero interest in learning to read. After playing for two days he was focused and ready to start learning. Hes already reading simple words and hes excited about reading!”

Alicia Lott, Parent

“Thank you so much for this game! It really is amazing, cute, funny and full of so much learning. I love seeing the students learn and improve from a game, which is just perfect for children. You deserve all the awards you get.”

Mary Allen, TEFL Teacher in China

"I started my five year old on it and noticed very positive improvements right away!"

Kari Earwood - Parent

“If you teach infants or children in the first stages of learning to read, sign them up straight away and watch them have a ball while teaching their monster to read. As well as recognising letters and sounds, the game teaches children to blend and segment. An engaging, fun and progressive game.”

sites4primary (Educational Resource Website)

"This is a fabulous game. Im not kidding when I say that my daughter essentially learned all her letter sounds using First Steps, with relatively minimal input from me! Great for parents to practise their letter sounds too."

Eleanor Jones
